The Gold Coast, once celebrated for its iconic drive-in motels that welcomed travellers from all over the country, has evolved over the decades, now characterised by its towering high-rises and modern architecture. Recognising the allure of the past while embracing the pulse of the present, we embarked on a unique endeavour – a project that pays homage to the bygone era while infusing it with contemporary sophistication – the transformation of the Ventura Beach Motel. The project was commissioned by Nu Dev, a leading real estate developer, and developed by Big Projects. Our mission was to rekindle the cherished charm of yesteryears while infusing a stylish and contemporary vibe.

Our joint vision: Our vision was two-fold – to evoke the enchantment of the Gold Coast’s drive-in motels from the 1950s and to seamlessly merge it with present-day aesthetics and an iconic twist – the famous blush pink and dusty blue colour palette. We sought to create an experience that resonated with the nostalgia of the past while catering to the preferences of modern travellers. The goal was to craft an experience where old meets new, providing an unforgettable and immersive stay.

Collaborative approach: Our collaboration with Niecon was pivotal in shaping the success of this project. With our strong background in construction and development, paired with Nu Dev’s design and real estate expertise, we worked together seamlessly to create a cohesive blend of skills. This synergy allowed us to meticulously recreate the enchantment of the past while ensuring it was enveloped in the amenity and style demanded by the ever-expanding Gold Coast tourist market.

Project completion: In October 2018, the culmination of our efforts was unveiled – a meticulously renovated motel that celebrated its roots while embracing the nuances of modern-day design trends. The motel’s design proudly echoed the nostalgia of the famous 1950s drive-in motels, expertly interwoven with sleek and contemporary elements. The project garnered recognition from renowned news channels, ABC News and Channel 9 News. The success of the Gold Coast motel project fuels our aspirations for the future. As builders and developers, our dedication to innovation and preservation remains unwavering. Today and beyond: Fast-forward to today, and the site has undergone a remarkable transformation. Niecon, sister company of Nu Dev, has redeveloped the site into Ventura Residences, a bespoke collection of 45 expansive north-facing apartments, offering stunning views of the skyline and ocean. Additionally, two Prestige Park Fronting Villas add a touch of opulence to the development. This marks a new chapter in the site’s history, where the spirit of the past harmonises with the aspirations of contemporary living, catering to the discerning preferences of modern homeowners.
